Local Da'wah Movement Among the Cadres of Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (HMI)

Abstract

This study aims to describe and elaborate on the model of the local dakwah (Islamic outreach) movement implemented among HMI cadres—specifically within the Bogor Branch, which encompasses seven higher education institutions. It focuses particularly on the roles played by HMI cadres—both as individuals and as officials of the Islamic Association of University Students—in fulfilling their personal duties and obligations within society, as well as their desire to participate in this local dakwah movement. The approach employed involves encouraging cadres to take an active role, whether individually or collectively, in carrying out the local *dakwah* movement within the HMI community. The aspects identified include the concepts and characteristics of the local dakwah movement, its contributions to society, its strengths and weaknesses, future challenges, efforts to build the movement, and the responsibilities of Muslim university students as agents of dakwah. These findings are presented in a manner that is descriptive, argumentative, and in-depth. The Islamic Association of University Students (HMI) is an Islamic student organization characterized by both Islamic and Indonesian-centric movements; it identifies as a moral and intellectual movement and operates concurrently within university campuses and the broader community. This dual engagement constitutes an integral part of the identity of its individual members and leadership.
